Publication of the special issue “Humanimal 2024”: Cross-perspectives on human–animal relationships across science, health, and culture

The special issue resulting from the first edition of the Humanimal 2024 symposium is now available online in the Bulletin of the French Veterinary Academy (BAVF).

This interdisciplinary symposium offers an original reflection on the relationships between humans and animals by bringing together scientific, medical, veterinary, as well as cultural and artistic perspectives. In a framework closely related to One Health approaches, it explores how interactions between species influence health, societies, and cultural representations.

The conference addressed several key themes, including:
• biological and health interactions between humans and animals (zoonoses, animal health, and public health)
• the evolution of human–animal relationships within societies
• the ethical and philosophical dimensions of the human–animal relationship
• the place of animals in culture, the arts, and scientific representations

One of the distinctive features of the symposium was its effort to foster dialogue between science and artistic creation, notably through discussions and interventions involving music and the arts, in order to explore perceptions of living beings and the sensitive connections between humans and animals.

The volume brings together the scientific contributions from this first edition and reflects the richness of the interdisciplinary exchanges that characterized the event.
