We propose to implement the innovative spectral sorter BigFoot to the CB UTechS and make it available to the entire scientific community. Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) of targeted cell populations from heterogeneous suspensions isolated from tissues is required for most biomedical studies. The sorted cells can be analyzed by various approaches to improve our understanding of cell behavior in health (e.g. aging) and disease, to enable obtaining new insights into host- pathogen interactions and to lead to discovery of diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers. The BigFoot enables sorting of six different cell subsets from the same sample, based on simultaneous detection of 30 cell parameters. Thanks to its sensitivity, it is an ideal tool for sorting of extracellular vesicles that play important roles in processes underlying infection.
